These rehabilitation programmes/seminars can be held either individually or in groups, and are especially directed for ex-patients with laryngectomy and stoma as well as for ladies who have had mastectomy.
5. The Society runs an Open Telephone Line through which the public may obtain information on cancer in general, or ask help for individual cases in the form of administrative details related to social services, information on state facilities and hospitals where treatment may be received. Moreover, providing moral support is an important aspect of the Telephone Line. The Open Telephone Line Number is 210/64.01.200, and operates from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
6. Runs projects in schools (both junior and senior schools), aiming to a more healthy way of life, with particular emphasis to the adverse effects of smoking.
7. Runs projects for the training of teachers on topics related to cancer such as nutrition, smoking, sun, etc.
8. Runs a programme for the screening of cervical cancer (pap-tests) with two fully equipped laboratories in which pap-tests are collected from remote villages and islands of Greece that do not have on-site facilities for such examinations. These tests are examined at no cost. Samples are collected by the local Gps or nurses or by a team of doctors and nurses which is specially sent by the Society.
9. The Society has already bought two plots of land in Athens and Thessaloniki, in order to construct a hospice for terminal cancer patients in each of these two locations. The need for these hospices is extremely pressing, to help cancer patients in various stages of the disease as well as terminal cancer patients who are not kept in hospitals for an indefinite period of time.
